MEDICINE HAT, AB — The case of a Medicine Hat man facing child pornography charges was adjourned until March, though the judge told his lawyer that the case needs to proceed at his next appearance.

An agent representing Wayne Smith appeared in Medicine Hat provincial court Thursday morning, where he was expected to enter a plea on charges of accessing and possession of child pornography.

Instead, an adjournment on the case was granted until March 12.

The judge told Smith’s lawyer that “next steps have to be taken” during Smith’s next court appearance.

Smith, the former executive director of the City Centre Development Agency, was arrested in June 2019 on the charges. The allegations stem from incidents which occurred between November 2018 and June 2019, more than two years after being let go from the CCDA.
