Local boy wins stick from Oilers ace with a “paper bomb”

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A local family of loyal Edmonton Oilers fans had that connection cemented late last week after the team’s top goal scorer handed over an autographed stick of his following a game of Rock Paper Scissors against eight-year-old Noah Osadchy.

The Osadchy family had travelled to Edmonton last week during the school break to catch a couple of matches when young Noah – with help from his five-year-old brother Liam – held up a sign challenging Oilers’ ace Leon Draisaitl to a game of Rock Paper Scissors.

The two young Hatters had got to Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Wild early to catch the pre-game warm up and help up the sign against the glass.

“Draisaitl span around then took his glove off and he kept on doing rock and I beat him with the paper bomb,” said Noah, an aspiring hockey player himself.

For dad David and mom Nicole, they couldn’t be happier with the response from one of the top NHLers.

“We took the poster up because we’d seen other kids had taken posters trying to get players in the NHL to play Paper Rock Scissors for a chance of winning their stick,” said David. “We had the poster up on the glass and we finally got Leon’s attention and he came over, read it and it looked like he didn’t want to play and then all of a sudden he turned around and took his glove off and he was ready to go.”

The family says they will frame the stick and keep it somewhere special to remember an unforgettable night.
