City planning to renew vision for Echo Dale Regional Park

Feb 24, 2020 | 3:37 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Echo Dale Regional Park is a summer favourite for many Medicine Hat residents and visitors who come to the region.

Public feedback is being collected about how you want to enjoy the park in the future.

Manager of Special Projects Maureen Mudry says Echo Dale opened in 1986 and they want to re-establish a vision for the park.

“Look at some conceptual planning that will help us make some decisions for the future. Both operationally and capital.”

When asked about possible camping at the current day park, Mudry says they’re looking for everybody’s opinion.

“That’s part of our dilemma. We have a park that’s been operational for 30 years. Everybody has a different opinion as to what the park should be like. It’s a beautiful natural setting so there’s that natural environment as well as we continue to get commercial inquiries. So we want to establish a conceptual plan so that we understand the future and be able to make some decisions based on that.”

Residents are encouraged to come to a public drop-in session at the Family Leisure Centre on Tuesday, February 25 from 7 pm-9 pm.

An online survey will be launched on March 6 on the city’s website.

Mudry says they have a fairly extensive stakeholder engagement process.

“So this is not the last time people will have an opportunity to provide us some input. But it’s certainly the first stage and we welcome everybody.”

“We want to know what residents want to see in Echo Dale as we begin planning for the next five, 10 and 15 years,” Mudry added.
