Lots of Family Day activities in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB – There will be no shortage of Family Day activities in and around Medicine Hat on Monday with the YMCA, Family Leisure Centre and Police Point Park all hosting events for minimal or no cost.

Medicine Hat YMCA downtown

From noon to 5 p.m. admission is free to all activities taking place at the downtown YMCA, though, identification is required for its sign-in sheet.

Activities include a bouncy castle with slide in half the gymnasium with a rotating list of other events taking place in the other half including; dodge ball, basketball, scooter hockey and Nerf wars.

Swimming, the climbing wall and fitness activities will also be available free of charge on Family Day.

Police Point Park

The park will be hosting its annual Kiwanis Family Day at the Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre and on the grounds from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Activities include free access to snowshoes or cross-country skis. The StoryWalk will be conducted on the park’s trails featuring, “Sleep, Big Bear, Sleep,” and birdhouse, bird feeder and robin shelf kits will be on sale for a small fee. Hotdogs will also be available to purchase to roast over an open fire at the park.

Family Leisure Centre

The Family Leisure Centre is hosting a jam-packed day of events on Family Day throughout the facility for $2.

The Aquatic Park will be open for two swim times between 12:15 and 2:15 p.m. as well as 2:24 and 4:45 p.m. Public skating at the Cenovus Arena takes place between noon and 5 p.m. while there will be five family Nerf wars taking place at Fieldhouse 2. Fieldhouse 1 will be hosting an inflatable alley throughout the day.

The Fitness Centre Track will be hosting three 60-metre sprints throughout the day for all ages while the gymnasium will feature interactive games, tot time and floor hockey.

Alberta museums

A number of museums across the province are offering free admission, including southern Alberta facilities the Royal Tyrrell, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Frank Slide Interpretive Centre and the Remington Carriage Museum.
