STRATHMORE, AB – The Medicine Hat Cubs are one win away from advancing to the second round of HJHL playoffs after recording their second shutout in two nights on Friday.

Coming off a 3-0 victory over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings in Thursday’s Game 1 at home, the Cubs put on another dominant performance in a 6-0 final in Strathmore.

Logan Leroux extended his shutout streak to 120 minutes in the victory, while Medicine Hat’s offence was led by a pair of goals from assistant captain Mason Fischer.

Medicine Hat opened the scoring midway through the first period with a goal from rookie Austin Klimosko to take a 1-0 lead, a score that stretched into the first intermission.

Spencer Chapman potted his second of the playoffs on the power play 5:44 into the second period, which was followed by a Trevor Moore marker nine minutes later.

At the halfway mark of the third period leading 3-0, Fischer exploded for two goals in just over four minutes to extend Medicine Hats lead to five.

The Cubs capped off their scoring on the evening with a shorthanded goal from Cooper Hilworth with 1:45 remaining in regulation, while Leroux made six saves in the third period to preserve the shutout.

Medicine Hat outshot Strathmore 38-21 in Game 2, with Leroux stopping all 21 shots he faced to move to a 2-0 record in post-season play.
