MEDICINE HAT, AB – After months of planning and construction, the new Co-op Community Developmental Play Space will finally be unveiled tomorrow morning at the Medicine Hat Public Library.

The project is thanks to $74,300 from the Co-op Community Spaces grant last year.

Along with the play structure, the grant also helped fund a “Tween Zone”.

That area features a giant tablet with different apps for older kids.

Chief Librarian Ken Feser says the play space is a great tie in for literacy.

“Understanding of learning childhood development which is that kids learn holistically. They learn by reading but also learn by socializing, by playing, by imaginative play, by body movement so this fits in and adds to our early childhood development offerings.”

Feser expects a big crowd for the grand opening so the library will hand out tickets with a time on it and there will be lots to do in the meantime.

“Really hope that this will attract new people to the library who maybe haven’t been here before. This is a fun activity, and of course, we have our books and story time to backup our offerings.”

He says the project isn’t all the way finished and the library still has a few more things that are going to be added.

The play structure is intended for preschoolers, however other additions like the “Tween Zone” will be at the grand opening as well.

Kids can get on and play after the ribbon cutting which starts at 10 AM tomorrow, February 1, until 5 PM. There will also be cake and more activities at the library on Saturday.
