OYEN, AB — A 37-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a fatal collision on Highway 9 last summer that killed an 11-year-old boy and injured members of his family.

Lowell Nathan Dyck has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

He’s also facing four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and four counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The collision occurred on August 7 between Oyen and Cereal. It is alleged a semi-tractor trailer struck a SUV while it was stopped behind another tractor trailer for construction.

An 11-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the SUV with four other members of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two adults and two children in the SUV were taken to hospital.

Dyck is scheduled to appear in Hanna Provincial Court on April 22, 2020.
