VIDEO: Ultimate Cheer Fusion leaping into international spotlight

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Ultimate Cheer Fusion is soaring to new heights in 2020.

In April, the local cheerleading club is sending two elite-level teams to Vancouver for the Sea to Sky International Cheer Championship.

It’s a landmark step for the 65-member club, seeing UCF has never graced the international stage before in its five years of existence. The team is holding a series of fundraisers leading up to the trip to help alleviate costs.

Jenna Jelinski is the co-owner and head coach for Ultimate Cheer Fusion, and says she’s seeing major improvements from all of her athletes. Last weekend in Lethbridge, five of Jelinski’s team’s captured medals in their first competition of the season.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports caught up with several cheerleaders to hear how they’ve grown as athletes over the years, and how special it’ll be to compete against other international teams for the first time.

Plus, Jelinski discusses how competing in Vancouver could open the door for bigger competitions in the future.
