MEDICINE HAT, AB – Reaction surrounding the sudden and tragic death of former NBA superstar Kobe Bryant continues to trickle in from all corners of the world, including here in Medicine Hat.

Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were confirmed dead following a helicopter crash near Calabasas, California on Sunday that killed nine people.

The 18-time NBA all-star influenced millions across the globe with his compete level and desire to win, including many current and former basketball players with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

Head coach Rich Humphrey has followed Bryant’s career since his early days with the Los Angeles Lakers and has seen the impact the 41-year-old had on the sport.

“He was greatness,” said Humphrey. “I don’t know if you can paraphrase that or sum that up, it’s too big to describe.”

“He analyzed every aspect of the game on and off the floor, he put everything he had into it. If you could only bottle that up and give that to athletes nowadays and young people, our future would be bright.”

CHAT Sports spoke to Humphrey about Bryant’s passing and the lasting impact he’ll have on basketball for decades to come.
