Medicine Hat, AB – A call to Taber police to report a suspected break and enter ended with both the suspect and resident charged.

Taber police say the incident occurred on Saturday when a witness reported seeing a man breaking into a home.

Police found and arrested the suspect on property crime charges and subsequently investigated the home he was accused of trying to rob.

That investigation lead police to secure a search warrant for the home where drugs, cash and unsecured firearms were found.

Twenty-nine-year-old Terry Van Huizen of Taber is facing charges of breaking and entering as well as possession of methamphetamine and cocaine.

The resident of the Taber home, Matthew Erick, 27, is facing drug trafficking charges relating to possession of methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana as well as cannabis-related vaping and edible products. The man is also facing charges of careless storage of a firearm as well as possession of a prohibited stun gun.

Both men have since been released on conditions.
