One injured in explosion at Stettler trucking company

Jan 9, 2020 | 4:06 PM

One person has been taken to hospital in Edmonton for treatment of burns following an explosion at a Stettler trucking company on Thursday.

According to Stettler RCMP, a 911 call was received around 11:30 a.m. regarding a possible explosion at a trucking company on 41 Street in Stettler. Mounties say EMS and fire crews were also dispatched to the scene.

Although police did not share the name of the trucking company, it has been confirmed as Parcels Trucking Ltd.

“It’s believed to be a gas fire. Somebody was working on a vehicle, and what they were working on combusted (and) exploded,” an RCMP spokesperson tells rdnewsNOW.

The 54-year-old male victim was initially taken to hospital in Stettler, but officials with STARS confirm the victim was later flown to U of A Hospital in Edmonton in serious but stable condition.

STARS officials note a great job done by rural EMS both on-scene and at the Stettler Hospital.

Mounties say occupants of at least one nearby building were evacuated as a precaution, but no other buildings were damaged in the explosion or resulting blaze.

More to come.
