HEMS provincial review underway

Jan 9, 2020 | 4:48 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A government review is underway regarding Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) in the province.

HALO Air Ambulance says they have worked very hard to have the government look at the HEMS platform in Alberta, how service is delivered, and how the bases are funded.

Public engagement is also being collected during the review.

In the meantime during the review, HALO will likely see a freeze on government funding according to HALO CEO Paul Carolan.

“So we had hoped we would get a sustained contract early this year. It’s probably looking like that will be after (the review). The review is probably going to be scheduled to go until the end of August and then by the time they compile that data and have an idea moving forward. So maybe towards the end of this year, we can start to have those conversations. In the meantime, HALO continues to fundraise on a day in and day out basis to make sure we can fly when we’re needed.”

Carolan says HALO continues to grow and is recruiting volunteer committee members and volunteer board members. E-mail info@halorescue.ca for more information.
