COALDALE – A two vehicle collision east of Coaldale about 8:00 Monday (Jan 6) night claimed one life and sent another person to hospital.

Coaldale Fire and RCMP were dispatched to the collision, involving a truck and a van, at the junction of Highway-3 and Highway-512 near the McCain’s plant at Chin.

RCMP say an 18 year old woman ran into the back of a one-ton truck as it was merging onto Highway 3.

She died at the scene.

Her name is not being made public.

The 56 year old female driver of the truck was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while a 55 year old male passenger in the truck was not injured.

Coaldale RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Analyst, continue to investigate.

Traffic on the eastbound lanes of Highway-3 was re-opened around 2:20 this morning.
