Charges laid in mall incident

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Charges have officially been laid against a 40-year-old man in connection with an alleged assault at the Medicine Hat Mall on Thursday.

Friday afternoon, police announced Paul Fabreau of Medicine Hat was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public following the incident, which sent a 72-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries to his neck.

Police responded to the mall at 1 p.m. on Thursday, upon receiving reports a man was allegedly assaulted with a weapon.

Fabreau was arrested outside of the mall by police.

Police have not released details about the relationship between Fabreau and the victim, but have said they’re known to each other. Police say no other details will be released.

Fabreau remains in custody and will appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on January 6, according to a release from police.
