Multiple city facilities closed for New Year’s Day

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Multiple city run facilities will be closed for New Year’s Day Wednesday, or running on reduced hours.

City Hall is officially closed New Year’s Eve Tuesday and on New Year’s Day on Wednesday, and will reopen Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.

The Veiner Centre will also be closed on New Year’s Day, but will reopen at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The Strathcona Centre, which has been closed since September for renovations, is also scheduled to reopen for use on Thursday at 8 a.m.

The Esplanade is closed December 31 and January 1, but will reopen Thursday at 10 a.m.

There will be no residential waste or recycling pickup on Wednesday, and the landfill will be closed. Residential waste and recycling pickup resumes in Zone 3 on Thursday. The landfill will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday.

While all other arenas are closed for January 1, the Family Leisure Centre will be running on holiday hours Wednesday. Those interested in using the pool, skating rink or gymnasium can do so between noon and 5 p.m.

City Transit will also be operating on its non-peak hours for New Year’s Day. Those looking to use the buses can do so between 10:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Regular hours resume Thursday.
