MEDICINE HAT, AB – Patients who come through the doors in the pediatric wing at Medicine Hat Hospital will have a comforting space to get better.

The Medicine Hat High School Rotary Interact Club unveiled the new ocean themed room this afternoon.

Students raised funds with popcorn and bake sales, along with the help of the Rotary Club, Boylan Imaging, and youth in philanthropy grant.

A total of $6-thousand was raised to complete the room renovations.

Michael Hope, Co-President of the Interact Club says working with kids is his passion. “It’s really nice to know that we can bring joy to kids through a tough time and help the families.”

The ocean-style room also goes with the theme of the Rotary Club’s wheel symbol. Medicine Hat High School’s name is displayed on the outside of the room as well.

Co-President Iqmat Iyiola says fundraising started in early 2018 for the project. “So amazing to know how many patients it’s going to impact. you know, we’re all kids so it hits different for us.”

The Rotary Interact Club students at Medicine Hat High work on two big projects a year. Right now they are working on supporting a water well for safe drinking water.

These students are inspiring, according to Executive Director of the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation Heather Bach. “Some of them aren’t even 18 years old yet and they worked hard and raised money for a year to make this happen. It’s really exciting to see them giggle and laugh, and you don’t hear that very often in the pediatric unit so it’s nice to see their reactions.”
