CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – There will be more conversation before a decision is made regarding the expansion of a greenhouse in Cypress County.

Reuben’s Veggies is proposing to build a 10-acre, artificially lit building along with an accompanying warehouse.

About 50 residents were in council chambers on December 17, 2019, to hear the next step, following the December 3, 2019 meeting on the matter.

Council approved with an 8-1 vote, to hold an additional public hearing on February 4, 2020.

The rezoning proposal would cover a 52-hectare area, changing it from general agriculture to greenhouse with the applicant Reuben’s Veggies.

2nd and 3rd readings were also postponed today to allow council to digest the comments that will be received at the public hearing in February.

Cypress County Reeve Dan Hamilton says the public hearing will help further their decision; being there are lots of people involved.

“There’s lots to take into consideration on this request. We just want to make sure we have all the information in place so we can make a fair and equitable decision on the outcome of it,” he said.

Residents can submit their concerns electronically to Cypress County administration or attend the public hearing on February 4, 2020, at 10 AM for comments to be on the record.
