MINSK, BELARUS – Promotion was not in the cards for Medicine Hat Tigers Mads Søgaard and Jonathan Brinkman this week, wrapping up the IIHF Division I – Group A World Junior Hockey Championship.

Representing Team Denmark, the pair suffered a 7-2 loss at the hands of the host Belorussians in their final game of the round-robin tournament.

Wrapping up their week with a 0-1-1-3 record, Team Denmark finished fifth in the overall standings and will remain in the Division I – Group A tournament next winter.

Søgaard, in his final appearance with the Danish national junior team, posted a 0-0-1-3 record in four games with a 3.22 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.

As for the 18-year-old Brinkman, he put up one assist and two penalty minutes in his five games at the tournament.

Søgaard and Brinkman will now return home to Denmark for the WHL holiday break and will be back representing the Tigers on December 27 when Medicine Hat visits Swift Current.

Team Austria finished as the tournament’s top club with a 4-0-0-1 record and have earned a promotion to the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer.
