Central Alberta Mounties make major drug bust

Updated on June 2, 2022 to reflect charges being stayed against a number of the accused.

Charges have been stayed against 5 of the 6 accused originally charged after RCMP busted a drug trafficking operation between Red Deer and B.C.

A total of 39 charges had been laid following an investigation that began in September.

On November 26, search warrants were executed at one property in Red Deer, one property in Blackfalds, and one property in Sylvan Lake. Red Deer ALERT assisted in the searches. As a result of the search warrants, police seized:

• 1351.4 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine

• 353.2 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine

• 312.8 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl

• A large sum of Canadian cash

• 2 firearms

• Packaging consistent with high level drug trafficking

• 5 vehicles, one which contained a hidden compartment utilized in transporting drugs from the lower mainland, British Columbia, to Red Deer and surrounding areas.

CHAT News has learned that since the arrests charges have been stayed against the following:

• Curtis Wesley Augustus (38) of Grande Prairie (All charges stayed in May 2021)
• Aaron Capp (33) of Cold Lake (All charges stayed in October 2020)
• Justin John Goodhand (32) of Medicine Hat (All charges stayed in May 2021)
• Ilija Rade Jahura (26) of Kelowna, B.C. (All charges stayed in September 2021)
• Denni Allen Martin (33) of Surrey B.C. (All charges stayed in August 2021)
• Shawna Lori Willier (29) of Edmonton (five of six charges withdrawn in May 2022, sentenced on one count of Possession of Property-Over $5,000 to Conditional Sentence of 2 years’ incarceration, plus 1 year of probation)
