MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service were kept busy Friday night, arresting four people for impaired driving.

According to a post on Facebook, the first arrest occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., with police taking a 76-year-old Medicine Hat man into custody. At 8:50 p.m., a 31-year-old Redcliff man was arrested.

Police arrested a 45-year-old Medicine Hat man at 11 p.m., and concluded their shift by taking a 27-year-old woman into custody for driving under the influence.

Sergeant Gerald Sadlemyer with the Medicine Hat Police Service says one of the drivers arrested Friday had a blood alcohol content three times the legal limit.

Police says they will be putting a focus on road safety and impaired driving during the holiday season, and say they would like to remind the public to plan ahead if they decide to drink, making sure they have responsible, designated drivers.

“We have lots of services, plan ahead, don’t drink and drive,” he said. “With the technology we have nowadays, with the local cab companies, and the different apps, and the companies that will come pick up your vehicle and take you and your vehicle home, there’s no more excuses.”

Sadlemyer says police have laid 110 impaired driving charges in 2019.
