Medicine Hat, AB – A 25-year-old man accused of the second-degree murder of Dustin Ironquil will stand trial on the homicide following a four-day preliminary hearing heard a Medicine Hat Provincial Court this week.

Donald Jade Goodwill was arrested after police began a missing person investigation of the 23-year-old Ironquil on Dec. 13, 2018.

Police found Ironquil dead at the Mayfair Manor apartment when they arrived at the building.

Members of Ironquil’s family were present at the courthouse during the preliminary hearing.

A vigil held earlier this year at the Saamis Tepee saw many individuals who knew the man describe him as a loving father and role model who was getting his life on track after experiencing financial hardships.

Details of the preliminary hearing can not be reported at this time due to a court-ordered publication ban.

Goodwill is scheduled to be arraigned and trial date set on Jan. 17, 2020 at Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench.
