MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service is asking for the public’s help to find a suspicious male who allegedly approached a woman inappropriately.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday. An adult woman reported being approached by an unknown male driving a white car in the area of Carry Drive Southeast. The man engaged the female from the vehicle, and then soon after approached her again in an inappropriate manner.

“He approached her, engaged her in conversation, tried to get her into his vehicle. The female indicated that she wasn’t interested. Following that, she continued walking on foot and at that time the male subject continued to follow her and ask her again and appeared quite persistent in trying to get her into the vehicle,” said Staff Sergeant Rod Thompson.

The suspect is described as being in his early 20’s, with black hair, dark complexion and spoke with an accent. He was driving and older model white care with tinted windows. The car appeared to be poorly maintained, according to the description.

“I know it’s a fairly generic description of the vehicle, but we ask if somebody does see a vehicle that matches that description and their exhibiting behavior that is consistent with what we had reported yesterday, to call us. And if it’s happening in progress call us on 9-1-1,” Thompson said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-529-8481 or submit a tip through the MHPS Mobile App.

Thompson added that it’s important for people to report these kinds of incidents.

“Without looking into it further, it’s not a criminal offense what happened yesterday. But it’s certainly behavior that is concerning. It’s inappropriate and it’s something that we need to look into. We need to serve the members of the pubic and keep the people safe,” he explained.
