Bandits strike at businesses along Hwy. 9 in crime spree

Medicine Hat, AB – A rash of smash and grab ATM thefts along Highway 9 have RCMP on the lookout for a pair of suspects currently.

The latest incident occurred this morning at the Canada Grey Motor Inn in Hanna just after 5 a.m., staff told CHAT News, with a truck used to smash in the front doors prior to a tow rope being wrapped around an ATM.

The ATM was dragged about three blocks before being loaded into the back of a vehicle with a staff member telling CHAT that a gun was pulled on a man who tried to stop the two suspects.

Another similar incident occurred at the Bay Car and Truck Wash in Youngstown around 2:30 a.m. this morning. Staff at the nearby Gas Plus say the truck used in that incident was positioned in front of its store shortly before 3 a.m.

A third incident occurred Saturday morning at Debmart in Oyen when suspects smashed through the front doors of the store and stole the ATM as well as lottery tickets and cigarettes.

RCMP are looking for two suspects now believed to be a man and a woman though it is still unconfirmed if all three incidents are linked.
