BROOKS, AB — A former member of the Medicine Hat Mavericks will be coaching in Brooks next season.

The Brooks Bombers announced late Monday Blake Rowlett will be taking over as head coach of the team during the 2020 Western Canada Baseball League season.

During his playing career, Rowlett spent three seasons with the Mavericks and one season with Okotoks. He was part of the 2014 Western Major Baseball League championship team with the Mavericks, and was a three-time All-Star in the league.

Rowlett played college baseball at East Tennessee State University for two seasons, and also played two seasons for Jackson State Community College. He had a career .316 batting average in college baseball.

Rowlett’s playing career ended in 2018.

He is currently the executive director and head baseball coach at Combine Academy, a post-graduate program near Charlotte.

Rowlett is the second former Maverick to move to coaching. Nolan Rattai will be the head coach of the Mavericks in 2020.

A release from the Bombers says Rowlett’s goal in 2020 is to win a WCBL championship.
