‘It’s special for me’: Sage Watson drops in for surprise training session with Panthers

MEDICINE HAT, AB — She’s a world championship finalist, a Canadian record holder, and an Olympian.

But Sage Watson hasn’t forgotten where it all began.

Earlier this month, during a short stay in her hometown, the 25-year-old caught the entire Medicine Hat Panthers track and field club off guard. She dropped in for an exclusive training session — a complete surprise for dozens of aspiring track athletes who dream of one day, representing Canada on the world stage.

Watson is a founding member of the Panthers and says it’s an honour to give back to a club, and a community, in such a special way.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports caught up with Watson following the training session to hear what it’s like to return to a club that helped launch her career, and what her next year of competition looks like. Plus, Panthers head coach Sonya Brown discusses how special it is to have someone of Watson’s caliber help out her athletes.
