Vikings blanked in Tier III South Final, fall short of provincials

Nov 16, 2019 | 5:26 PM

COCHRANE, AB – A wild ride for the Crescent Heights Vikings football team came to an end on Saturday, falling one win short of playing for a provincial championship.

The Vikings were shutout in Cochrane 42-0, losing the Tier III South Final to the top-ranked Cobras on the road.

Crescent Heights was the last remaining local team still gunning for a provincial title, finishing the regular season with a 6-3 record and falling in the Rangeland Football Conference championship game to Medicine Hat High School.

However, the fifth-ranked Vikings survived a 21-point deficit last week and stunned the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers 22-21 in overtime to advance to the regional final.

Cochrane, who have won each of the last five Tier III championships, will face the fourth-ranked Holy Rosary Raiders on November 23 for the Alberta crown in Raymond.
