Medicine Hat, AB – A former board member of the city’s rifle club charged with theft over $5,000 from the group entered a guilty plea on Thursday.

Christa Keating, 58, was charged in August by city police after allegations she embezzled an estimated $36,000 from the Medicine Hat Rifle and Revolver Club.

Keating entered a snap guilty plea Thursday morning at Medicine Hat Provincial Court.

Her sentencing date has been scheduled for March 26, 2020 to allow for completion of a pre-sentence report.

Theft over $5,000 comes with a maximum 10-year sentence and often includes at least some custodial time when the crime involves a person in a position of trust and is prosecuted as an indictable offence.
