MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat College instructor is facing an assault charge.

Richard Gregory, 63, has been charged with one count of assault in Medicine Hat Provincial Court. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

The assault is alleged to have occurred on April 25, 2018.

The charge was not filed until October 24, 2019. No other details about the case have been released.

Gregory is the chair of health and human services at Medicine Hat College, and is also an instructor in the Social Work department.

Medicine Hat College has confirmed Gregory is not on campus while the case is before the courts.

“The college has numerous policies in place in our desire to create an appropriate environment for students, and of course for employees,” said Mark Keller, executive director of advancement and community relations. “We’re looking at all of the policy that is applicable to this kind of situation, and we are making sure we are following it absolutely strictly.”

Gregory is scheduled to make his next court appearance on November 28.

No plea has been entered on the charge.
