ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE, AB – No shortage of offence from the Medicine Hat Cubs in two games up north over the weekend, climbing into third place in the south.

Fresh off a 4-2 victory over the Ponoka Stampeders on Saturday night, the Cubs got six goals from six different players on Sunday in a 6-2 win over the upstart Rocky Rams.

Mackenzie Fritzler and Ethan Machan opened Sunday’s game with first period goals to give Medicine Hat a 2-0 lead, adding a goal from Cooper Hilworth midway through the second.

Rocky’s Landon Siegle cut into the deficit before the period’s end, however the Cubs were able to pick things up again once the puck dropped for the third.

Goals in the opening 10 minutes of the final stanza from Brayden Anderson and Chandler Aleman gave Medicine Hat some breathing room, while Mason Fischer capped off his big weekend with a late period goal to make it a 6-2 game.

Rookie Dawsen Savage continued his incredible start to his junior career with 40 saves against the Rams, improving to 5-3-0 with a 1.80 goals against average and a 0.942 save percentage in eight games.

Savage came in for Brett Vanderveer in Saturday’s game as well, stopping all 19 shots he faced in the victory over Ponoka.

Fischer recorded a pair of goals in that win for Medicine Hat, finishing the weekend with three markers and 11 in 12 games.

Newly acquired forward Spencer Chapman got his first goal in a Cubs uniform in the third period of Saturday’s tilt, while Aleman also found the back of the net for Medicine Hat.

The back-to-back wins have vaulted the Cubs to a 9-3-2 record and trail the Cochrane Generals for second place in the Southern Division by just three points.

Medicine Hat heads north again next weekend with road games against the Red Deer Vipers on Saturday and the Stettler Lightning on Sunday.
