Motz supports Scheer continuing as leader

Medicine Hat, AB – MP Glen Motz (Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner) is squarely laying the blame of a divisive federal election campaign which has raised questions of national unity at the feet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

But it was the leader of the Conservative Party who was on the hot seat on Wednesday at a marathon caucus meeting in Ottawa as MPs met to decide next steps post-election.

As far as Motz is concerned, he is supportive of Opposition Leader Andrew Scheer continuing at the helm of the Conservatives.

“I’m pleased with that,” said Motz from Toronto on Thursday. “It’s something that I was confident would happen.”

He added that Conservative Party members will be able to have their voices heard on the topic in the spring after MPs decided against triggering a leadership review on their own Wednesday, deferring the decision to April`s party convention in Toronto.

“It’s a decision on whether or not he stays or goes should not rest at the will of MPs. It should rest with Canadians who are part of the conservative movement,” said Motz.

Former Harper-era cabinet minister John Baird has now been tasked with doing a post-mortem review of the Conservative election campaign.
