Redcliff arena parking lot repaving possibly on hold

Redcliff, AB – Four months after the project started, the Redcliff Rec-Tangle arena parking lot continues to be a work in progress.

At the end of July, Redcliff town council awarded the repaving project to Transit Paving at the end of July.

After multiple undisclosed delays in the project, now Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick says he now doesn’t expect the project to be fully completed with asphalt until the spring because of the early winter weather.

Although not fully decided, Kilpatrick believes that they will get the concrete done and gravel pre-graded so that they can re-open the lot with the sports season in full swing.

“To pave it now probably isn’t prudent. With the amount of snow and moisture we’ve collected in some spots, those spots probably wouldn’t stand up. And then next year if we had to start replacing asphalt because we had water spots, that’s not going to go well. So we may as well wait. Park on gravel and try and pave in the spring,” he said.

Kilpatrick says that the town will have to decide on what they are going to do soon.

“It does not look like the weather is going to give us a break. We’re up and down again this week,” he said. “And sounds like Remembrance Day is going to be cold. So I don’t foresee asphalt in the parking lot this year. Just a rough year.”
