Man charged after forcible confinement false alarm

Nov 1, 2019 | 1:56 PM

Ponoka RCMP have charged a Medicine Hat man following an investigation into possible forcible confinement.

On Oct. 30, members from Blackfalds detachment were looking into a report of a female being held against her will by a male armed with a knife inside a stolen truck. The vehicle was reported heading towards Ponoka where members from that jurisdiction were called in to assist.

Police located the truck at a gas station and arrested the male who was in possession of a knife. The female was found hiding behind the cashier counter.

Further investigation revealed that the man and woman were known to each other and had been travelling together to the central Alberta area. It was determined that the woman had not been held against her will and that the truck had been stolen from the Medicine Hat area the previous day.

The man was wanted on another offence and supposed to be on a curfew. The woman was released without charges.

Tyler John Figley, 35, is charged with four counts of failure to comply with a recognizance, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of stolen property over $5000.

Figley is scheduled to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Nov. 5.

Ponoka RCMP continue to investigate this matter.
