High winds prompt fire advisories around Pincher Creek and Forty Mile
PINCHER CREEK, AB – Fire advisories have been issued for two regions in southern Alberta due to the high winds.
Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for much of southwestern Alberta calling for wind gusts up to 100 km an hour.
However, Nanton RCMP says their community has seen winds as fast as 150 km an hour, while the speed signs near Lundbreck have registered 172 km an hour.
“The fire hazard has moved to a potentially Extreme risk due the curing of the grass fuel load,” reads the fire advisory from the MD of Pincher Creek and Town of Pincher Creek. “Weather will determine the risk and that risk will change quickly especially in windy, dry conditions.”
