Advance poll numbers up in local ridings

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Advance poll usage is up across multiple ridings in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, according to Elections Canada.

CHAT News was able to receive data from Elections Canada for the ridings of Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, Bow River, Lethbridge and Cypress Hills-Grasslands.

In Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, 11,934 voters cast their ballots at the advance polls from October 11-14. The number is up from 8,122 who used the advance poll in the 2015 election.

There are 78,384 eligible voters in the riding.

In the Bow River riding, which includes Brooks and Bassano, 15,359 voters out of 78,994 eligible voters used the advance poll. This is up from 2015, where 8,813 cast their votes at advance polls.

In Lethbridge, 16,373 voters used the advance poll, up from 10,346 in 2015. There are 88,226 eligible voters in the riding.

Cypress Hills-Grasslands, which includes Maple Creek and Swift Current, saw 8,470 people use the advance polls, up from 4,781 in 2015. There are 50,111 eligible voters in the riding.

Elections Canada says approximately 4.7 million Canadians voted at advance polls this year, up 29 per cent from 2015.

Election Day is on Monday.
