MEDICINE HAT, AB — A company linked to investor Warren Buffett is planning to build a wind farm near Medicine Hat next year.

Berkshire Hathaway Energy Canada announced Tuesday they intend to break ground on the Rattlesnake Ridge Wind Project, which will be located southwest of Medicine Hat. According to a news release from the company, the project will produce 117.6 megawatts, and will produce enough energy to supply the equivalent of 79,000 homes.

In the release, the company says a large Canadian corporate partner has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with BHE Canada for the majority of the energy output from the project. The project is privately financed by BHE Canada, and will be developed by RES Group, a renewable energy company based in the United Kingdom. The company built the Halkirk Wind Project in Alberta.

The project will feature 28 wind turbines once finished. The project is expected to begin generating energy for Alberta’s energy grid in December 2021.

During the peak of construction, approximately 150 jobs are expected.
