Meet the candidates – Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE – The riding includes the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge County, which includes Coaldale, Coalhurst, Pincher Creek and Nobleford.

In the 2015 election, Rachael Harder with the Conservative Party of Canada carried the riding with nearly 57 per cent of the vote. The NDP has been the runner-up since the 2006 election.

Here are the candidates running in the 2019 federal election, according to Elections Canada.

Rachael Harder – Conservative Party of Canada

Harder is looking for her second straight term with the Conservative Party of Canada. Prior to entering politics, she worked as an independent youth and young adult consultant, and spent two years travelling across Canada to interview 18-34 year olds about the social, cultural and spiritual trends of the generation, according to the party’s website.

During her time in Parliament, Harder served as the Shadow Minister for Status of Women for two years.

Shandi Bleiken – NDP

Shandi Bleiken – NDP

Shandi works at the University of Lethbridge as an administrative assistant, and is also a community organizer and volunteer for a number of organizations in Lethbridge, including being a board member of OUTreach Southern Alberta, a LGBTQ+ outreach organization.

Amy Bronson – Liberal Party of Canada

Amy Bronson – Liberal Party of Canada

Bronson grew up in Lethbridge, and according to her biography, has worked across Canada as a management consultant. She has also been a performing artist, worked for local businesses in Lethbridge and volunteered through the community.

Bronson’s father was a small business owner in the beef industry, while her mother was a nurse. She possesses a Master’s Degree in Global Affairs from the University of Toronto.

Grant Hepworth – People’s Party of Canada

Grant Hepworth – People’s Party of Canada

Hepworth is the party’s first ever candidate for the Lethbridge riding. He is the owner of smoker’s Revolution, a vape shop in the city. According to his biography, Hepworth has also worked with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business and describes himself as a fiscal conservative. He says, if elected, he would listen to his constituents and try to pass laws to help benefit their lives.

Stephnie Watson – Green Party of Canada

Stephnie Watson – Green Party of Canada

Watson is originally from Red Deer, but has lived in Lethbridge for the past 17 years. Watson possesses a Master of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Lethbridge, and is currently developing a new company, Sherlock & Watson Scientific.

In addition to the environment, Watson’s other focuses for the riding include reducing the cost of post-secondary education, reforming the Phoenix pay system, and ensuring public sector scientists have a voice.

Marc Slingerland – Christian Heritage Party

Marc Slingerland – Christian Heritage Party

Slingerland is a teacher and school administrator from Lethbridge, who has lived in the region his entire life.

He says “Canadians need a government that recognizes its proper role in providing freedom for families to be able to raise their children, for businesses to create prosperity, and for local organizations to meet the needs of their communities. “
