STRATHMORE, AB – It was a good night to be on the Medicine Hat Cubs’ power play units on Saturday, scoring three goals on the man advantage in a 4-2 victory in Strathmore.

Trailing by a pair of goals after the opening 20 minutes, the Cubs rallied to score four straight to post their second victory of the 2019-20 HJHL season.

Saturday’s contest didn’t start off as planned for Medicine Hat, as Wheatland Kings forward Lucas Muenchrath scored back-to-back goals to put the home side up early.

The Cubs answered back on special teams in the second period with a pair of power play goals themselves to tie the game up at 2-2 before the midway mark of the frame.

A late even strength goal before the second intermission wold give the Cubs their first lead of the game, going into the break with a 3-2 score.

Medicine Hat was able to add their third power play goal of the night with just three seconds remaining in regulation, doubling up the Wheatland Kings by a 4-2 final.

Cubs goal scorers were not published as of late Sunday morning.

Final shots were 41-22 for Medicine Hat in the victory, while starter Dawsen Savage earned his first career HJHL victory with 20 saves on the night.

Jumping back above .500 with a 2-1-0 record on the season, the Cubs will finally hold their home opener on Sunday at the newly-renovated Kinplex against the Coaldale Copperheads at 2:15 pm.
