TORONTO, ON — A bitcoin mining company which operates in Medicine Hat will begin trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange next week.

Hut 8 Mining, which announced last month it had received conditional approval to begin trading, announced Thursday they will begin trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange beginning October 8. They will become the first-ever cryptocurrency company to start trading on the TSX.

Hut 8 had previously been trading on the TSX Venture Exchange, an exchange for smaller companies. They graduated to the main exchange through the TSX Sandbox Program, a program which allows smaller companies to meet requirements to be listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Hut 8 announced Kyle Appleby as it’s corporate secretary for the company, which was one of the requirements required for approval. Previously, Jimmy Vaiopoulos, who serves as the Chief Financial Officer, was previously serving as corporate secretary.
