MEDICINE HAT, AB β€” RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down and use caution on the highways due to the winter conditions.

A collision on the Trans-Canada Highway caused traffic in the westbound lanes to be backed up for several hours, with one driver reporting his vehicle did not move for over two hours.

Garry Hurkens was driving on the highway when he ran into the tail end of traffic, roughly 10 kilometres west of Suffield.

β€œFor at least two-and-a-half hours, you could have shut your vehicle off and sat there in the middle of the road,” he said.

Hurkens sent cellphone video of the collision, which can be viewed here.

Hurkens said he saw tow trucks travelling on the side of the highway heading to the scene, but did not see the collision itself.

Redcliff RCMP say they responded to a collision Monday morning near Suffield, but say there were no injuries.

Hurkens eventually decided to turn around and return to Medicine Hat.

According to Alberta 511, the Trans-Canada Highway remains open for travellers. Drivers are reminded to drive with caution due to the conditions.
