Charges laid in connection to fatal collision near Cowley

PINCHER CREEK, AB – 39-year-old Luke Kessler has been charged with four different offenses after a serious collision over the weekend.

He is facing one count of dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop after an accident resulting in death, driving left of center, and failing to hold a subsisting driver’s license.

This is in connection to an accident at 8:50 pm on Friday, September 27th approximately one kilometer west of Cowley, Alberta on Highway 3.

According to Pincher Creek RCMP, Kessler’s truck and another truck collided head-on.

The 59-year-old passenger in the other truck was killed on the scene, while the 60-year-old male driver of the other truck was taken to hospital for undetermined injuries.

RCMP claims the suspect fled the area on foot and was arrested several hours later in his home in Cowley.

The road conditions were said to be wet at the time.

Highway 3 was closed for approximately nine hours as crews investigated.

Kessler is scheduled to appear in Pincher Creek Provincial Court on Tuesday, October 1st at 10:00 am.
