MEDICINE HAT, AB — Freezing temperatures and periods of snow didn’t hold back two Highway 3 rivals from putting on two tightly contested shows at the Medicine Hat College on Saturday.

After the women’s Rattlers soccer squad battled to a 0-0 draw against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks, the local men’s team fought to a 1-0 setback.

The ladies are now 2-2-2 on the campaign, while the men fall to 3-2-1. Both teams remain in a playoff spot, with the women holding onto the fourth and final spot in the ACAC’s South Conference. The men, meanwhile, are tied for third with the Red Deer College Kings.

Amanda Oevering was unbeatable between the Rattlers posts, making 11 saves to preserve the shutout. She was helped out with two saves from her fellow teammates. Micaela Stone stopped all three shots for the Kodiaks.

Joao Vitor Duz Batista also chalked up a strong performance for the men in goal, allowing one goal on eight shots. Cody Ferguson was tested just once on the other end of the field.

Both Rattlers teams have six matches remaining and return to action next Saturday at the Snake Pit against Olds College.
