Kydd, Stankowski lead Hitmen to 2-0 victory over Tigers

Sep 29, 2019 | 9:53 PM

CALGARY, AB — Adam Kydd and Carl Stankowski managed to cool off a red-hot Medicine Hat Tigers team on Sunday.

Kydd scored his first two goals of the season, Stankowski stopped all 33 shots, and the Calgary Hitmen handed the Tigers their first loss on the road in a 2-0 decision at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Kydd’s first, the eventual game-winner, came on the powerplay late in the opening frame. The Regina-native, who also earned first-star honours, added the insurance marker early in the third period.

Stankowski’s flawless performance earned him second-star honours, with Tigers goaltender Mads Søgaard rounding out the third star with 28 saves.

Ryan Chyzowski and Hunter Cambell electrified the crowd of 4810 less than three minutes into the match, dropping the gloves and earning five-minute majors each. Campbell also earned an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the same time.

Arguably Søgaard’s best save of the night came in the second period, stopping Riley Stotts on a penalty shot.

Medicine Hat wraps up a busy three games in three days with a 2-1-0-0 record. Their two victories came over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday and Saturday night. They’ll take the next four days off before returning to action Friday night in Regina against the Pats.
