Library gets ping pong table inspired by Finlay Bridge

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Public Library is more than just books.

That’s why they have teamed up with the Saamis Rotary Club to bring a new element of fun to the city with a ping-pong table.

The Rotary Club commissioned local artist Adam Lefebvre to design the table, which mirrors the city’s iconic Finlay Bridge.

“We’re really excited about it. It’s been up and running for a little while. A bit of a soft launch, a bit of a secret. But it’s out on our lawn and it’s what we would call a functional art piece. So it’s really attractive, it’s not just a ping pong table.” Said chief librarian Ken Feser.

The official launch of the table is this Friday as part of Culture Days’ Art Walk.

The library will be open until 9 p.m. that evening and they will also be hosting an art show for another local artist downstairs.

For Feser, this is another step in expanding the library’s reach to more than just a place to grab a book.

“It’s really about cultural, entertainment, and information coming together. We’re very much about socializing and bring people together as well. So ping pong is a way to do that.” He said.

For those wanting to use the ping-pong table can sign out paddles and a ball with their library card from the front desk.
