MEDICINE HAT, AB — Glen Motz is not taking anything for granted this election.

The Conservative Party candidate is seeking a second term in Ottawa in the riding of Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner in the federal election, and says he and his team are out working hard on the campaign trail.

“We earn this position, and we earn it by developing trust with the people of this riding,” he said.

Motz, a longtime police officer for the Medicine Hat Police Service, entered politics for the first time in 2016, following the sudden death of Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Jim Hillyer.

He became the nominee for the Conservative Party of Canada, and won a by-election in October of 2016, receiving almost 70 per cent of the vote.

“For me, it’s always been about service to the public,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed it. It’s one of the highest callings I think a person can have, to serve the community that they live in. I took it as a great honour to serve the people here in policing, and it’s equally as much of an honour to serve a much broader range of people in the riding.”

Motz says affordability, the economy jobs and getting rid of the Liberal government are the issues he has been hearing while door knocking during the campaign.

“The current Liberal government has failed us dramatically, they’ve failed Canadians,” he said. “They continue to spend recklessly, they continue to increase taxes without abandon and Canadians have said we’ve had enough, and that’s what we’re hearing.”

Locally, the energy sector and jobs are the biggest issue for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, says Motz.

During his time as a Member of Parliament, Motz has served as Deputy Shadow Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. He adds he is most proud of being able to help people in his riding find solutions to their problems.

“My constituency office, on a daily basis, we help people from this riding deal with everything from Canada Revenue Agency issues to immigration, old age security, you name it,” he said. “We are interacting with people from all different walks of life and helping them navigate some of the challenges they may have with federal departments. We really enjoy that.”

Motz’s campaign office is located at 3084 Dunmore Road Southeast, behind Moxie’s. He can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.
