MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers have acquired another defenceman ahead of the start of the regular season.

The team announced Monday afternoon they had received Parker Gavlas, a 20-year-old defenceman from the Edmonton Oil Kings. In exchange, the Oil Kings received a fourth round pick in the WHL Bantam Draft next year.

Gavlas played 46 games with the Oil Kings last season after being acquired following a trade with the Regina Pats. He had one goal and nine assists with the Oil Kings.

Gavlas is now the fourth overage player on the Tigers, joining Hayden Ostir, James Hamblin and Tyler Preziuso. Teams are allowed to have a maximum of three 20-year-old players on the roster.

The Tigers begin the regular season on Friday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Enmax Centre. The game begins at 7 p.m.

Tigers head coach and general manager Willie Desjardins speaks about the trade in the video below.
