Equestrian Centre hopeful for new indoor facility

Dunmore, AB – The Dunmore Equestrian Centre hosted it’s Little Britches Rodeo over the weekend but it’s hoping to continue having such events all year in a new indoor arena.

The event attracted over 150 participants and at least twice as many fans – a type of event which co-chair of the Dunmore Equestrian Society would like to see more of throughout the year.

“These are the type of events we’d like to build upon and be able to showcase throughout the winter at the indoor facility we’re proposing to build,” said Justin Kraft.

Cypress County opened consultations with residents at the end of July regarding supporting the indoor facility. That consultation process is also looking for feedback on a new arena to support a hockey academy.

Kraft said an equestrian centre located in the county would attract a number of events to the city with the indoor facility being only one of a few in the region.

“As far as equine facilities, the closest one to the west is Brooks and the closest one to the east is – for a public facility – is Moose Jaw so there is a big need in this area for a public facility that anyone can go and rent and use 12-months of the year,” said Kraft.

Kraft said he expects results of the public consultation process be available later this month.

The facility would be located next to the outdoor ring in Dunmore.
