MEDICINE HAT, AB — Days following the completion of their training camp, the Medicine Hat Tigers have already signed two of their prospects to a standard player agreement.

The team announced Tuesday afternoon they had signed Henry Smith, a defenceman drafted by the team in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft (second round, 34th overall).

“Henry is two-way defenceman with good feet. He has a heavy shot, makes crisp tape to tape passes and he shows good offensive as well as defensive instincts,” said Bobby Fox, Director of Player Personnel, in a news release.

“Henry is a good young defenceman that likes to get involved in the play offensively,” added Willie Desjardins, general manager and Head Coach, in a news release. ” We would like to welcome Henry and his family to the Tigers Organization.”

Smith spent his bantam season with Delta Hockey Academy’s Bantam Prep G team, where he recorded 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 29 games played.

The Tigers announced Tuesday afternoon they had also agreed to standard player agreement with forward Tyler MacKenzie.

MacKenzie, also selected during the Bantam Draft this year (sixth round, 122nd overall), spent last season with the Bantam AAA Red Deer Rebels. In 32 games, he recorded 51 points (20 goals, 31 assists).

The Tigers play their first pre-season game on Wednesday, hosting the Swift Current Broncos in Irvine at the Irvine Sports Complex. The game begins at 7 p.m.
