Mavericks and Little League announce partnership

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Little League baseball in Medicine Hat will be moving to a new level starting this fall.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks have partnered with Medicine Hat Little League association to help grow and develop the game in the city. Starting this fall, Little League players will begin receiving hands-on training from the Mavericks coaching staff, including owner Greg Morrison and veteran coach Nolan Rattai.

“We’ve been a supporter and sponsor of Medicine Hat Little League since I’ve owned the team, and probably before that,” said Morrison. “I think we’ve really strengthened our relationship in the past year, a testament to the board, and the president Jeff Klick.”

“We’ve really wanted to jump both feet in, and really demonstrate our support for Little League.”

The coaching will help students as young as six years old, up into the high school ranks. Morrison says they want to be involved more in depth with the Little League program.

“We just want to give those opportunities, whether it’s fall, winter or summer, and then even being engaged in their seasons, that’s something else we’re excited about too, to actually be out on their fields and on our field, so we can be doing some game instruction, as opposed to just individual instruction in the indoor sessions,” said Morrison.

“We’re going to be putting on coaching clinics,” said Klick. “We’re going to have the Mavericks out in the field, where the coach is working with his team, and they’re going to be able to say, ‘hey coach, try this.’ They’re going to be able to bring that to practice the next day.”

The new partnership will also come with a name change for the Little League All-Star teams. The teams will now be known as the Mavericks, and wear the same red and white colours the WCBL team does.
