Medicine Hat, AB – If you’re looking for a good read for the long weekend, the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre is the place to go.

They are hosting their third annual book sale on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st to help raise funds for their organization.

“A lot of people in Medicine Hat have lots of books to give. And other people in Medicine Hat have lots of reading that they want to do. So by being able to support animals by doing such a book sale, it’s a really easy but fun way for us to increase revenue here for the animals that we care for at the facility.” Said APARC’s Cheif Operations Officer Samuel Sandidge.

The books, which are gently used and donated, are available for sale both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at APARC (1002 S. Railway Street).

“We’re hoping to really discount them heavily so we can get as many out the door because we have quite a few that we need to sell. So hardcover books are going to be about $2. Paperbacks a dollar. And it just goes down from there.” Sandidge said.

Sandidge says that some of the books that have been donated to APARC will be held for the launch of their new bookstore “The Page & Whisker” which is set to open downtown this fall.

“Those are going to be the ones that initially are going to stock our shelves. So this is a really good opportunity for us to utilize something that we’ve done on an annual basis to help kick start a new project.” He explained.

Sandidge says that they will be accepting book donations until Friday at 6 p.m..
