AGUASCALIENTES, MEXICO – For the second time in her career, Redcliff’s Kaitlyn Ross will get a chance to represent Canada at the 2020 Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Wrapping up play at a world cup qualifying tournament in Mexico, Canada secured one of the four berths at the 2020 World Cup on Saturday evening with a little assistance from Team Cuba.

With their final round-robin game against Mexico rained out, it was a waiting game for the Canadians as they monitored the results of Cuba’s contest against the Dominican Republic.

Cuba managed to upset the Dominicans, giving Canada one of the four qualifying spots.

Not satisfied with just the World Cup ticket however, Ross and the rest of her Canadian teammates picked up a bronze medal at the Pan-American qualifier with an 11-1 mercy-rule shortened victory.

Ross caught 14-year Team Canada veteran Amanda Asay in the five-inning contest, while Carrie Jespersen, Kelsey Lalor, Stacy Fournier, Madison Willan, and Asay all hit home runs to earn bronze.

It will be Canada’s ninth consecutive trip to the Women’s World Cup, as Canada earned a bronze at the 2018 event in Viera, Florida.

Canada is ranked second in the World Baseball Softball Confederation standings, trailing only Team Japan who are the six-time defending World Cup champions.

Joining Canada from the Americas at the 2020 event will be the United States, Venezuela, and Mexico.
